Government has the ultimate rights of land ownership in many countries in sub-saharan Africa particularly Nigeria. These rights override all interests and tenure, while providing inadequate compensation to disruption of people’s livelihood. Again, even with the short-term tenure, landscapes cut across different boundaries and interests which make landscape interventions challenging.

Working with interest and civil society groups to pursue valued community aspirations and safeguard communities against infringing land use policies while providing strategies for access to land ownership benefits that are in harmony with existing State laws.
